Will Sound Deterrent Machines Keep Opossums Away?
There are plenty of products out there that promise to keep the pests away. They say that they will remove the pests without causing harm and without causing damage. They promise to do all of this with minimal effort and investment on your end.
It all sounds great – but can you trust them? One that many want to use and trust is a high pitched sound deterrent machine. On the surface, it sounds like a perfect solution.
According to manufacturers, it scares away animals, including opossums, with a high pitched sound that they do not like. They actively avoid it and find other places to live.
Before buying into one of these machines, know whether this is all true or it is a falsehood made to sell products.

Sound Deterrent Machines
On paper, high pitched sound deterrent machines sound great. They have a good basis for them working by annoying animals into moving along.
Like anything else alive, opossums want a quiet and peaceful place to nest. They want somewhere that offers safety and access to anything else. It would make sense that a high pitched noise would get in the way of that.
It does not, though. That noise is not going to affect them whatsoever. Animals, like opossums, deal with all types of noises all the time. It does not bother them or stop them from doing what they are doing. Unless they sense they are in danger, which they would not in this situation, they are going to keep doing what they are doing.
Options That Work
Face it, the sound deterrent machine is not going to do anything. It is disappointing, but it is not an effective or reliable method of removal. It is a waste of money that will provide no results. If opossums pass up staying at your property, it is not because of this machine – it is because of other factors that make staying there difficult or undesirable.
If you have an opossum on your property, the best way to deal with it is trapping. Trapping opossums is easy and effective, with a high success rate. Professionals trust it because it works so well. It is cheap and it shows results, unlike machines that do not deter them at all.
There are ways to deter an opossum, such as property maintenance, but a high pitched sound machine is not one of them. It does not deter or remove an opossum from anywhere.
